New User Asked -
Automatic transmission. Tries to shift into gear then shifts out then back in again. Several times in each gear. Finally does go into gear. CD4E Transmission

If adding fluid (to correct low fluid cond) does not help, then it is time for rebuilt trans. Sorry.

1997 Mercury Mystique Drive Train / Driveline Making Noise When driving

New User Asked -
I accidently left my lights on during the day, causing my battery to die. I have not replaced the battery, but instead tried charging it up. However, even after trying to fix the battery, the car does not drive nearly as well. It does not accellerate as well and it slows down more quickly than it used to. It is noisier underneath, and fairly frequently, I hear rubbing and/or a thud-thud-thud that seems to come from front tires or the lower engine. The brakes work fine. I figure this must have a fairly obvious answer, and I appreciate your taking the time to respond.

You have a combination of problems. Lets start with the easy one.. either replace the battery or get it fully charged. Then disconnect the neg lead from the battery for 10 minutes to allow the computer to reset. You will have to drive about 50 miles to allow the computer to adjust itself. Next, does the noise come from the front tires, back tires or engine.. does the noise change with eng rpm or with road speed .. let me know we can go from there.. AL

1995 Mercury Mystique Engine Hesitating When accelerating Always

Falkeneiz Asked -
I am working on a 1995 Mystique with a 2.0 4 cyl. It came into the shop with no power on acceleration. The timing belt was stretched and had major cracks on the surface.. I replaced the t-belt and the car acts the same. It still has no power on acceleration and occasionally will backfire through the intake while trying to accelerate. I have triple checked the timing and it is correct. I scanned the computer for any fault codes (no check engine light while car is idling) and pulled up a low EGR flow code and a knock sensor code. Do you have any points or advise on what else to check? Is this a common problem?

-
Replace the mass air flow sensor,Ford has had a lot of problems with them on the contour/mystique.

Falkeneiz -
i have already replaced the MAF sensor... only because that is how it acts... that is why I am stumped.... I am wondering if the ECM is bad...my scanner doesnt indicate anything out of whack..
