1995 Mitsubishi 3000G Engine Leaking Happens always Always

New User Asked -
Hello, I left water in my 3000GTs cooling system
instead of antfreeze and now my coolant is leaking.

There is a little round "lid" that came out of the engine. As I understand that should be kind of a fuse for ideots like myself leaving water in the cooling system.

My question is how hard is it to put this round metal lid back, and what concenquences may I suffer. Hoping that I didn't crack the engine block itself.

I did check oil, it does not have any white stuff on it and there is nothing strange coming out of exust. Car starts just find, just coolant leaks right as I put it in.

Thanks

Andrei

Hello, It sounds like one or more of your engine FREEZE PLUGS has popped out. It is supposed to do that as the freezing water expands. This protection feature is designed to prevent the block from cracking should the coolant protection be insufficient.

You can replace the freeze plug with a new one by finding a socket or a pipe or similar tool that fits the largest (outer rim) part of the new freeze plug. Align the new plug with the hole in the block and drive (hammer) the plug into the block until the rim is flush with the block. Compare the depth you have achieved to the other plugs with the block that appear to have their original position. Adjust the depth as needed.

Some parts stores carry freeze plugs that can be set in place and have a bolt in the middle that you turn with a socket or wrench to tighten and seal the plug in place. Whatever works for you is fine.

Look for other plugs that appear to have moved toward popping out. Replace any that you can, they are cheap insurance.

You can do this if you have access to the engine area the plug belongs in and the tools. It's no big deal. When you finish up, check for leaks as the system warms up and the radiator cap allows the cooling system to pressurize. Follow local recommendations for coolant/water ratio needed to protect your engine.

1995 Mitsubishi 3000G Ignition System Won't Start

New User Asked -
Hello,

Let me start with thanking you for great service, sure saves money and time.

I was wondering if you could advise on my current issue,

About a week ago I was dropping my friend off and killed engine just for a minute. When I started it back up I didn't hold ignition long enough and engine started and died. (that happened twice) Because I was parked somewhat uphill I parked on 1st gear and as I started I had to hold clutch down so I rolled back slightly also I was in reverse gear.

After that the car would not start, it sounds like it is picking up but would not start you can hear engine turning there is black smoke coming from exhaust and smell of gas. Second after ignition is off there were some loud pops in the exhaust.

First I thought "flooded engine" I left car where it was parked.

Next morning I tried again - same thing Still engine turns and shakes however now no blows from exhaust

I took off ECU fuse (to stop fuel pump)

Tried starting for a minute, now can feel big difference as engine is not even trying. Then plugged fuse back tried starting after ignition
is off for a second heart blow from exhaust. Tried taking fuse from ECU several times, when I plug it back in can hear pop in exhaust but no go.

After towing car to my house, looked up Mitsubishi service manual on how to proceed with flooded engine, manual suggested just to wait for gas to evaporate (I am not sure how long can it take with cold weather)
I disconnected fuel line coming into the engine to see if fuel pump is working sure enough upon startup fuel is going with great deal of pressure.
Connected fuel line back in, still engine turning but no startup still black exhaust.

Inspected air intake and sensor everything looks good.

At this point I am wondering what could this be:

#1 Could it be that my engine is that badly flooded ?
#2 Ignition timing is what also came to my mind
#3 Could it be timing belt misalignment

I looked up documentation on resetting ignition timing however
found something on the Internet saying that after 93 models it is not adjustable. Could that be truth ?? Is there anything I can try to see if it is ignition timing??

Should I try to start it from the go ??

If the engine is flooded anything else I can try to un-flood it ??

I have rough idea and Internet document on how to check if timing belt alignment is correct do you think that is worth a shoot?

I have a professional that can take a look at it but I wanted to check with you guys first to see if I could avoid towing charges.

Thanks in advance

Best Regards

Andrei

it would be rare but possible that the timing
skipped a tooth I would first check for a spark then make sure you have a good battery
then you can check the timing by just cranking the engine a little starter fluid in the intake would also override a few fuel mixture problems but it is highly unlikely that the timming just went off even a slight change would not stop the car from starting that would cause other problems after it is running

Hello
Were you able to take care of that problem?
