I live in Africa and am driving a right driver side 1997 Mitsubishi Pajero io 3 door. I was in an accident 11 Sept 09 and sustained minor front end damage but both airbags deployed. Can I still drive the vehicle from an SRS standpoint if I DO NOT repair the SRS? What would be the price to repair the SRS in Bloemfontein South Africa or the phone number to call the dealer there and ask them that myself?
Bruce Kit -
Car would be driveable but obviously not as safe.Prices for airbag replacement vary according to region. I have had sucess finding them online on places such a E Bay
occasionally.
Some local dealers:
Joe Williams Motors

Langenhovenpark
Bloemfonten

New Vaal Motors

I want to replace the automatic transmission with a manual. Do they have manual transmissions for this year and model?
Bruce Kit -
Yes, they do have a 5 spd transmission for that year.Your best source for information as to what other years fit would be an autowrecker. The change to a standard is a bit involved as you have to change a lot of parts.Smaller brake pedal, clutch pedal, clutch master and slave cylinder, flywheel and shifter are just a few obvious ones.
A clutch saftey switch, driveshaft yoke, and transmission crossmenber are a few others.
If you can find a wrecker that has a decent transmission, you might find all the little bits, and they should give you a decent 'package' deal.
