Nissan Micra 1990 model - car radio impossible to remove

Hey I wonder if anyone can help me... I've recently acquired a Nissan Micra G registration (1990 model) and it came with a car radio that I think was in the car when it was new. Unique as it is (no FM band, only MW and LW!!) I want to change it for a better radio that I have. However, try as I might, I cannot figure out how to actually remove the radio from the car. There are no obvious screws or latches or anything, and I've felt around the back and nothing seems to give.

Please help!! any suggestions welcome. My email address is tommilburn@yahoo.com

thanks!

sure there is a trick to removing the radio
you have to get your hands on a set of nissan radio removal tools they are special thin keys for inserting into the sides of the radio before sliding out of the sleeve
best buy auto installation department is a good place to buy them or just go to a dealer ,but this could be expensive

ok so i have a nissan micra 1990.The other day i started having problems putting it into 1st gear, vry difficult and kept slippin. Now it started to make horrible noise and now i cant get it into gear at all!!! while i was parked up waiting for a tow truck to collect me and take me home i noticed i was leaking oil is this connected?is it my gear box or clutch?wen it is parked up an engine off i can get it in 2nd and 4th and thats it.started it wont even engage into any gear

Bruce Kit -
The leaking oul could be engine or trans. If the leak is in the vicinity of the clutch, it will cause the difficult shifting and the slipping. Check the oil levels in engine and trans first. Remove the inspection cover under the clutch and see if it is oily. If the rear main seal is leaking it will contaminate clutch. If the problem is just the clutch, replace the rear seal at the same time, as it is cheap. You would not want it to start leaking after new clutch installed?

New User -
the oil is black so does tht mean its definatly engine oil?the leak does look like it appears to start under the part of the clutch in the engine that moves when u put your foot on the clutch pedal(sorry hope that makes sense)its a thin black line of oilthat appears to be coming from there b4 going on floor.a lot of oil came out while i was just sat waiting for 2hours.how would i be able to tell if its the clutch or the gearbox that needs replacing??

New User -
oh also i checked the engine oil level its about down to half way and it was full onli a few weeks ago wen i filled the ppl carrier up i checked the nissan and just topped her up

Bruce Kit -
Assume then that the rear engine seal is leaking?

New User -
so this is partly good news then???as a new gearbox would cost a lot more to replace i guess.so whats needed is a new rear seal and new clutch?

Bruce Kit -
Yes

New User -
that great thanx xx i know i'llneed totake her to a mechanic for the work but it's a weight off mymind that it wont cost more to repair than the car is worth

Red ignition light comes on strong when sidelights switched on. (in low ambient light - it is on dimly all the time), suggesting alternator not charging battery - but battery is charging - got 14 volts plus there. Any ideas?

Douglas -
Have you confirmed voltage is 14+ all the time. You could have an intermittent discharge. You could also have a problem starting with the alternator OR perhaps a nearby light partially illuminating the charge light.

New User -
Hlo Douglas. Got yr reply tku. Just got back fm short holiday. The day before we left i fitted a replacement 8nstrument panel thinking this wud sort it. It didn't. Fault exactly same. This rules out possibility of nearby illumination - and several others. It surely cant be intermittent discharge as that wud surely flatten the battery - and it seems strong. Alternator seems best bet i guess. but i dont want to spend out another £70 on a chance. I will get it out the car and on the bench and try to check it. What shud the diodes read (in situ) each way - on an ordinary ohmeter ? that's about all I know how to check. Oh, by the way, I have topped up the battery fluid - all cells were a bit low. Dont tell me - that cud be the fault. I will find out tomorrow - for sure. and let you know.

cheers - Ian Purves
