Since I first my 96 Olds LSS (at 60,000 miles) the heat and air conditioning have not worked on the lower, driver side of the car. They worked so well on the passenger side and the defrost though that it was never a big problem. Four years later, at 250,000 miles, the heater fan occasionally makes rubbing noises when first started but it stopped as soon as the car warmed up. This morning we had heavy rain and sleet and I went through five areas that were flooded before the car had warmed up. When the temperature guage came up and I turned on the heater it blows only cold air on both sides and defrost. I love this car and I really can't afford a new one or an expensive repair until July. Any ideas?

First check for any blown fuses in the fuse panel and then under the hood check and make sure the fuses are good and the relays are operating
At that point if all is ok you will need to disassemble the panel to get to your heater blower and your air control selector switch to see if they are malfunctioning
One way to test it without the initial troubleshooting would be to run a scan on your car for any stored codes to see if there was a problem detected and recorded
This diagnostic can be done free of charge at any reputable auto parts store.
Pull the code numbers and see what they read
I hope this helps
