1994 Oldsmobile Royale Engine Chugging When accelerating When warm
New User Asked -
After the engine is warmed up when I try to accelerate the engine will buck and surge, if I maintain a very slight pressure on the accelerator I can maintain my speed. I found if I turn off the engine and retsart it,the engine will run fine for about 5 minutes then start to buck and surge when trying to accelerate. What could this problem be? Could it be the mass air flow sensor? Thanks

Hello, The first thing I would check is the fuel filter. It sounds like it is restricted and you are "runnunig out of gas" because the volumn of fuel you need cannot get through the filter.
The fuel filter is located under the car above the rear axle and forward of the fuel tank.
The car had not been started for about a month. Jumped started it and it ran great.Drove it for about a half hour, and parked it. About two hours later tried to leave, but once again all I could get was a click from the starter. Jumped it again and it ran for a moment the stopped. I tried this about four times when I noticed a pop or backfire sound coming from the air filter. It was later in the evening so I decided to lock up the car with the remote (equiped with remote start),started to walk away when the tried to start on its own until I disconnected the battery.

Check your alarm system for frayed or burnt wires and proper installation. the problem sounds as if it could be a short in that system which will cause your battery to drain like it did and the remote start to go wonky on you.

Hi, A car battery in a very low state of charge will usually permit a jump start. Once jump started, if the alternator is working, the engine will run all right but the alternator cannot bring the battery back to a full charge. It will only accomplish a surface charge that will self disapate in a very short time.
I expect the remote start system will behave once again when the battery is up to par. Have the battery tested to see if it will take a charge and then recharge as needed.
Test your car for parasitic drains on the battery. Up to 35 miliamps is acceptable.
