I've got a 1980 volare with a slant 6 225 with a carter 2bbl, when it sits for a day or two it seems that the fuel line emptys in the tank or something like that.
Therefore I have problems when I try to start it. I need to pump the gaz at least 10 to 15 times. When it finally starts, I need to warm the engine up before going beause it stalls as soon as I press the gaz pedal. When I'm able to leave it still hesitates until the engine is finally warm. When the engine is warm it works like new at high and low rpm. Take note that the carb has been rebuilt last year, since then it's easier but still having problems.
Usually, the colder the climate get the harder it is to start, and the longer it sits as well. It sometimes starts well when its cold and when it sits for a while.

The fuel pump has what is called a check valve that is designed to prevent fuel from draining back into the tank. You could monitor fuel pressure with a gauge OR- if you don't have a gauge- a new pump should not cost much (assuming you can change it yourself).
I assume there is no black smoke from the exhaust when the car does start and the oil does not have a gasoline odor (signs that the engine is flooding after sitting).

No it does not make black smoke and the oil smells like oil.
Thanks

Your welcome,
Do you need instructions for the pump?
If not stop back and let me know if the problem is resolved.

Hi,
Yes I would need instructions for the pump.
