Just rebuilt engine (326ci), replaced 2 barrel manifold with an Edelbrock Airgap 4bbl manifold. Replaced points ignition with magnetic pick up. Replaced 2bbl Rochester with Edelbrock 1406 650cfm carb. Replaced cam with aftermarket Crane Cam (idle to 5500rpm, just over stock).I cannot get it to start at all unless I manually pump the accelerator pump (a lot, and very fast!). Using aftermarket fuel pump (4-7psi) instead of mechancial pump. I can get the car to run only if I keep the carb (all 4bbls) WOT. won't idle, won't start unless I repeat above.

How does the engine run when it is running and at what rpm's does it run?
Any smoke (black?) from the exhaust?
How does the oil smell, any gasoline odor?
How is cylinder compression?
Make sure you don't have major vacuum leak.
Rochester carb's are widely considered superior to Edelbrock.
