New User Asked -
my subaru had been sitting for awhile since i was on deployment and i didn't have the money to put into it when i got back so i did go out and crank it up on the weekends and let it run when i got home. it ran fine aside from having to warm up. well the other day i did not crank and stay running wouldn't get over 200rpm so i went out and replace the ingnition coil wires and spark plugs rotor and distributor cap. it ran great...i was on the road and all of a sudden it would just die the rpms would drop and it would start to back fire flood out and die. i would recrank it and it was a task just to get it to the oil change place. today i went back and the battery was dead. the lady at the oil change place charged it and i still got no power all the fuses are good then i disconnect a wire that led from the batter to a black box attached on top of the coil the cars buzzard turn on and then shut off after 3 secs. i did this repeatedly and each time it would last 3 secs then power would go out. when i manage to crank the car it would not get over 1000 rpms. is a relay box out or just a loose wire.

Start by checking the battery terminals and grounds.

Has the battery itself been tested? If not have it tested, most autoparts stores do this free of charge.

THE BATTERY IS GOOD I CUT AND REPLACED THE WIRES LEADING TO THE INGNITION COIL AND IT STARTED RUNNING BUT EVERY SO OFTEN THE CAR WILL START TO CHOKE AND SPUTTER REGARDLESS OF THE RATE OF RPM'S, THE GAS HAS BEEN SITTING IN THE TANK FOR OVER A YEAR COULD IT BE BAD GAS...I ADDED ADDITIVE TO IT.

Douglas -
Definitely run some new gas through and let me know if it smooths out.

well it wasn't the fuel. i think i narrowed it down to 2 possibilities, either its the ignition control module or the fuel pump. i have to pump the gas pedal numerous time before the car will crank. when it does it purrs like a kitten then dies regardless of the rate of rpms. i held the gas wide open while under the hood to see what would stop first electrical or fuel. it was almost a tie. it seemed that the all ignition power went then the fuel stopped pouring into the carburator then the engine dies i had the rpms way up inorder to see the fuel spray. it stoped at the same time that all electrical died and the engine stoped of course. and i have to re-pump the gas numerous like 6-7 times inorder for it to crank. oh all power stays on in side the car. what are some signs if its the control module. again thanks for the help
