2001 Suzuki Swift Ignition System Malfunction When starting When cold
Kate Asked -
The engine cranks fine, it just will NOT turn over. I turn it over and crank. turn it off and pull teh key out. I reinsert the key try again, and again, and sometimes i get luck and it turns over on the first try. Most times when it's cold, it cranks over and over again. I know it's not the battery, it's new. When it's warm out it starts every time.

You will need to check for spark to the plugs during the no start period. If there is no spark the most common failure is the crank sensor- give me your engine size if you'd like more information.
If you have spark listen for the fuel pump running for a couple seconds when you first turn on the key and during engine cranking. It would be best to check pressure with a gauge, if you have one.
This information assumes the check engine light, etc come on when you first turn on the key (as it normally does). This proves the ignition switch is doing its job (or at least some of it).
helo i have a suzuki switf 1.0 993 cc 5 dr is the same as geo metro this is part number of the ecu 33920-60E3 "a3" i saw a lot of ecu's that looks that tha same i want a know if i can install any of those or if need to be the same one, im frustated because i cant find the same model please help me !!
macjoe -
i found several "a3" system with different part numbers but i dont know in addition the only same one that i found has a last number 2 and the mine says number 3
there is another difference ?
Douglas -
Call either one of these numbers from a computer supplier-
They'll have the information to let you which computers will work- [redacted] or this number-- [redacted] .
The differences are automatic or manual transmissions; along with California, federal, or Canadian emissions designations.
You can also try parts suppliers from the all-parts home page. Provide your part number along with make, model, eng, trans, Calif/Fed/Can. so they can match your query.
macjoe -
actually i dont have all this info and my car are in panama so basically can i use my vin number ? and thast to u to make what i have and what i need exactly?
Douglas -
Try your VIN number and get back to me if you call the numbers I provided and the parts suppliers from the homepage--
http://all-parts.com/ Click under 'Auto Recyclers' for a used part or 'Wholesale Direct' for a new part.
macjoe -
can i send this number tomorrow?
macjoe -
JSAEAB44SSS100672 is the vin number and the motor number is g10a240406 thanks
Douglas -
Are you inquiring from the parts suppliers yourself or do you want me to do this for you.
If you want me to do it, I'll first need your permission and your email address so they can contact you.

1993 Suzuki Swift Engine Chugging When idling No pattern

The car used to sound tight but now it seems to misfire. Over 40KM per hour it sounds nice though. Also it was burning oil extremely fast. Someone looked at it and said they found a little oil on a spark plug and cleaned it up. I also had the oil changed. Now it burns next to no oil, it last forever but the oil seems to get very dirty very fast.
Douglas -
Can you smell any gas in the oil? Modern oil has detergents in it so it's normal for it to appear dirty quickly. Especially if the oil is not changed regularly.
Recheck the spark plugs and make sure they are gapped properly.
Does the check engine light come on while your are driving? If it does you need to check the trouble codes.
tail light fuse was blown, replaced it and it blew again, now no lights at all, no headlights, brake lights or tail lights. back up light works, turn signals work. found shorted white/blue trace wire along column that goes to multifunction light switch and repaired it but now no lights still.
New User -
shorted wire that i found was pinched and bared against the grounded metal steering column

Hi, let me look for a wiring diagram to see if a fusible link is in play here.
Back soon,
Roger
Roger -
Looking at wiring diagrams I see that the fuse box fuses for headlights, tail lights, fog lights, hazard lights and stop lights all have a common power feed.
I believe it is a Combination Switch output on a Wht-Grn wire. Can you locate this wire and determine if power is there?
Roger
New User -
hi, white green from combo switch on columh back ro fuse box? i will check now back in 5
New User -
there is a white green red going to hazard portion of the switch and a white red going to headlight portion, now here is where it gets weird. i just had 12 at both wires, i hit hazard switch, voltage went to nil then retested it was about 5 volts. removed battery cable waited a minute, reinstalled battery cable and now have 6 volts at these wires.
New User -
just went to junk yard and got a used multi function switch i am going to go out and install right now.
in an attempt to start eliminating components
Roger -
I have some wiring diagrams. They are very small print. Would you like copies scanned to email or I can fax to you?
To email I need your address. To receive a fax please advise the fax number.
Roger
New User -
i have chaged multi function switch, no change I found a wiring diagram on the internet but it was so small when i printed it i could not read it maybe yours will be better. any ideas for me? my fax is [redacted]
New User -
just got called to work i work on call so i have to leave for 2 hours, will look for your fax or reply on my return thanks
Roger -
I'm faxing four pages. All are small print. Look and see how wire colors may differ and tell me if we have usable data.
Roger
Roger -
Okay, see ya later.
Roger
New User -
i am completely lost now unless you have any ideas roger, everything seems to be ok fuse is not even blowing now but still no h/lights, tail lights or brake lights. heater turn signals and back up lights all ok. wiring colors appear to be the same as your diagram
Roger -
There must be a broken wire somewhere. The circuits that still do not work have a common power feed.
Tracing through the fuse box you'll find the fuses in question drawn on the left side.
Has this car been damaged? Are wiring harness routed near the battery where corrosion may have effected the harness?
When examining the connector for the combination switch how many and what color wires have power at all times?
We can do this,
Roger

Thanks for your help roger, i drove it down to my local auto electric place just now, and lo and behold everything started to work When i got there lol.
Then thankfully it quit right in front of him, I have left it with him. I was there about 15 mins and he found an intermiitent power feed on a big yellow wire to the fuse box. So it is somewhere between this yellow wire and the firewall/engine compartment area.
I am confident that he will be able to fix it up for me. Once again, thank-you very much for your help!
I will leave this open so i can let you know what happened if you like.

Well hey, this may work out!
I've been studying the wiring diagrams with a magnifying glass and tracing circuits.
What I found interesting is that on the page that I faxed to you that shows Fig.4: FUSE BLOCK.... at the top left of the drawing there is a horizontal Wht-Yel wire on terminal #26 that comes in from the MAIN FUSE BOX. This is the power feed input for all of the circuits in question.
When the Yellow wire your local guy referred to is fixed it should power up the terminal #26 I'm seeing must have power.
Do I deserve to be paid for my efforts? It's your decision.
Roger
New User -
of course you deserve to be paid. I appreciate the help, if we had a little more time we would have tracked it down for sure, it was my decision to take it to electric shop before we had exhausted all possibilities.
do i have to do anything to make sure you get paid?
Roger -
I will not see what your screen shows. The site administrator is working on making it easier for you to accept an answer.
Look for something that allows you to close the question or to click on a red button that says OK TO PAY MECHANIC.
I thank you.

A -OK got the car back and went to check it in the parking lot and the lights failed as soon as i asked my daughter to check them. went inside and the guy, he came out and did some checking, he showed me the socket under the hood where 30 amp fuse is that runs all that stuff and it is pretty burnt looking. he then took a pair of needlenose pliers and bent the blades inside the socket to about 30 degrees and said everything would be alright, seems to be so far. I followed my daughter home and all was ok, but i think that maybe I will make one more trip to the junkyard and replace that whole underhood fuse/relay box. Do not know why he did not do or recommend this.
I think I got a quick fix for $100.00 but by no means thorough.
Kelly
Roger -
That's outragious! Why would you accept a stunt like that after paying $100.00?
I'm sorry you were treated in such a disrespectful way. How would he not be liable if an electrical fire results? What is he thinking...or can he think?
A heavy duty 30 amp fuse holder can be found at an auto parts store. It would be a fast repair to replace the burned socket with an external fuse holder. I recommend the flat blade fuse holder as the fuse fits tightly. Tight fit minimizes heat build up.
The type repair I'm suggesting will be very effective when the splice is soldered. Shrink wrap the splice to keep it clean and insulate it from shorting. As long as you know what this fuse is for that is all that matters.
Roger
New User -
yes, I am going to fix it properly. I don't need my sixteen year old daughter to go up in flames along with her car. I have also gotten her a little fire extinguisher for the car. I am going to hit the ok button now which i think allows you to get paid.
Thank you very much for your time Roger. I will use this service again as I have '04 f-150 lariat and a '95 f-150 that likes to act up once in a while.
Thanks again, Kelly Foot
