need to replace the exhaust donut but have to wait for the part to be ordered. Is there a temporary fix that will last a day or two. Too loud to drive without. Also how hard a fix is replacement?

About the only thing that might work is a muffler tape, if you can rap it around the area. This usually costs about 3-4 dollars at your local auto parts stores.
The only hard part is getting the old bolts/nuts out. They get very tight and sometimes break. If you know anyone that can heat the bolts with a torch first, this usually gets them. Unless by chance they are not rusted or heat damaged, then you could just use a good spray lubricant like PB Blaster.
I replaced 81 speedometer-odometer with one from an 84. 81 speedo worked, odometer worked intermittently. It seems that the cable must be kinked. The odometer works fine, but the speedo needle bounces up and down and there is a whine. It was hard to install the thing due to the bend in the cable rubbing up on the top of the dash. I put the cable on and took it off several times to be sure it was seated. Any suggestions?

It really sounds like you'll need to replace the cable now. Is one available from the donor car?

Yes, but the donor car is in Tennessee, and I'm in Oregon. When I get another cable, how do I prevent the same thing happening. Thanks
Douglas -
Simply prevent damage to the cable and make sure it turns freely before installation.
