1989 VW Scirocco Engine Hesitating When accelerating No pattern

Doesn't happen often, but when does it makes the car very difficult to drive. Idles at 1100rpm but when trying to accelerate, unless you floor the accelerator the engine stalls. Only lets you move when needle is above 3000rpm and then jumps forward. when engine is left for a time it behaves normally. I have a weber carb with K&N filter, engine is 1.8 GT2.

You need to have a systems scan of the vehicle. With the items you have discribed, its' possible an errant code is being sent to the ECM. Wild guesses would be MAF,TPC, Fuel injectors. Hard to read on this side of the screen.

When you do get it into a shop, do not hesitate to ask questions if any codes should be retrieved and the nature of the code itself. I've seen too many techs stop at the top or in the middle of the flow chart associated with said codes and proclaim the problem is solved. The flow charts are meant to be followed to there extent to assure a proper repair.
